A school bus carrying 42 people overturned during a crash on Saturday while riding along the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick. 

Police report that there weren’t any fatalities or serious injuries during the hit-and-run accident that occurred around 5.30pm. 

‘There was a lot of kids crying and mostly everyone that got off the bus was bleeding,’ Josh Keys, a witness, explained to NJ.com

‘The scene was a mess. But mostly everyone was able to walk out. Some people had to be carried out. I helped a few people out then I left because it started to get really hectic. When I left there was no police or ambulance on the scene. After driving North on the turnpike for five minutes I saw the police on the way.’

The group is said to have been returning to Newark after enjoying a picnic at Black Bear Lake Country Club in Millstone, WLNY reports. 

The 42 bus passengers were taken to the RWJ University Hospital in New Bruncswick and the JFK Medical Center to get treated for non-life threatening injuries

The Mayor’s Family Reunion Picnic is hosted every year for residents in Newark. 

Bus passengers were taken to the RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick and the JFK Medical Center to get treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka visited the families at the RWJ University Hospital after the crash.

Officials with Newark claimed that there were actually only 32 people on the bus. 

Both the local and express lanes of the turnpike were closed for an hour while New Jersey State Police worked to clear the road.
