Mohamed Salah will ‘almost 100 per cent’ play against Uruguay, reveals Egypt manager Hector Cuper

Egypt boss Hector Cuper is almost 100 per cent certain that star man Mohamed Salah will be fit to play in his team’s World Cup opener against Uruguay on Friday.

The Liverpool star’s participation in Russia was thrown into doubt when he was forced off in the first half of the Champions League final just over a fortnight ago.

After tangling with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, the Egyptian landed heavily on his left shoulder and left the field in tears before watching his team-mates lose 3-1.

Initially, it was feared the Professional Footballer’s Association, Football Writers Association and Premier League player of the year would be ruled out of the World Cup.

But the Egyptian Football Federation announced it did not expect Salah to be sidelined for more than three weeks and he was named in the squad for the tournament in Russia.

Egypt and Uruguay are joined in Group A by hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia, who meet in the tournament’s first match a day earlier.

The Pharaohs’ second game is on Monday against Russia in St Petersburg.
